Events 2006

17th June 2006           - Exhibition

After the success of last years show we were planning an increase in the size of the show by using the church hall in addition to the main body of the church used last year. Unfortunately this did not quite work out as we did not realise that separate booking systems operate for the two parts of the church and we had only booked the main church. In addition we had committed to the date at the start of the year in order to meet the publishing deadlines for the N Gauge journal and railway magazines. Unfortunately we had not at this point been able to confirm the availability of all our intended exhibitors, he nett result was that the society show / Clacton group and the North Essex group were unable to join us. All of this required some rearrangements to our plans with members of the group stepping in with additional displays and some work to re-plan the actual positioning of the displays.

After all this we were able to display 4 fully working layouts, a Bachmann digital OO set used as a hands on set for children, A display of 16mm garden railway models (including a test track for electric locos) and a selection of live steam engines (demonstrated using compressed air). We were also well supported by a couple of local traders (Scograil and Diss shop).

Throughout the day there was a steady stream of visitors. Overall the numbers were slightly up on last year. The none N gauge displays proved very popular, in particular the chance for modellers to try running the Bachmann digital system was too good to miss with a number keen to try the system and in particular running two locos simultaneously.

The group intend to hold a similar event next year, hopefully learning a few lessons and improving things further for next year.

Finally the group would like to thank all the exhibitors and traders for there support and of course to all our visitors.
